John 3

Nicodemus and the New Birth

Fear brought him to Jesus by night.

His faith was built upon miracles.

Believing in miracles does not make one born again.

Like Nicodemus, the unsaved cannot understand Truth.

Like him they understand Jesus on a physical level only.

Jesus rebuked this religious leader.

Born again is not the same as christening, good works, or religion.

Only God can make us His children.

How blind the unsaved really are (:9).

He believed a man could be changed on the outside, but not inside.

Jesus illustrates what simple faith is (:14).

People go to Hell because they refuse to look to Jesus.

No Christ = No salvation.

The lost are lost because they love sin.

They think ignorance is bliss.

Those who come to Christ are honest with themselves.

They see their real need.

God transforms them.

The Life Changing Power of the Gospel – John 3:6

The object is to change death into life.

We have been born again through the Holy Spirit.

The flesh still wants to dominate us (Rom. 7:21).

We ought to be winning that war.

The regenerating power of God (Rom. 8:12).

Do we yield to sin and the flesh? (Rom. 6:19).

Are we still controlled by the Old Nature?

Jesus wants to change all of that (Rom. 8:3-4).

Why do we believe this? – On what grounds? (1 Pet. 1:3).

“Beget” = Produce like for like.

Since we are begotten we ought to behave differently than the world.

God is still working in us (Phil. 2:5).

In our spirit, soul, and body (1 Thess. 5:23-24).

This is Christianity’s message and object.

Few People Understand Why Jesus Came – John 3:13

The world makes a great deal about Christmas.

Few know why Jesus actually came to earth.

Few people really want to know why.

Jesus tells us why He came:

1. To Confirm the Scriptures (Matthew 5:17).

God’s Word cannot be broken.

They don’t understand because they will not read the Bible.

2. To Save the Lost (Luke 19:10).

3. To Offer Repentance (Luke 5:32).

4. To Bring Division (Matthew 10:34).

5. To Bring Eternal Life (John 10:10).

These things belong to nobody unless they receive Him.

Who really understand the meaning of Christmas today?

They do not understand His first coming.

They do not like the idea of His second coming (Rev. 22:12).

Only Bible-believers understand Christmas.
